Google Adwords for Northern Ireland

An intelligent way of managing your advertising spend is to apportion some of it to targeted advertising which reaches the people who are actually seeking to spend money on the products you provide.

Google Adwords is a search advertising scheme in which you create Ads and specify keywords to trigger them. When a user searches on Google the words he or she types is tested against your set of keywords and if a match is found Google displays your Ad.

When users click your Google Ads they go to your website and Google charges you for the click. The cost is usually a few pence per click but could be more depending on the amount bid by competing Ads and how well you have set up your Ads. You can control the amount you pay for each click and Google lets you know if you are not bidding enough.

You pay for people to visit your website. That sounds off-putting but you pay for only those who choose to visit because your Ad matches their desire for your product. In marketing speak they are called highly qualified leads. This targeting provides the most efficient use of a marketing budget.

Adwords can raise the profile of any website. It's not just about selling products online. Adwords gives instant results whereas search engine optimisation takes time to bed in. With Google Adwords you can be on page one of the Google search results pages.

In theory you can target Google Ads to particular locations such as towns and cities or even specify the number of miles from specified postcodes. You won't spend money on clicks from beyond your catchment. So much for the theory. It does not work very well and it is particularly bad in Northern Ireland. If you operate in Northern Ireland and your customer base is in Northern Ireland (and optionally the ROI too) for the most cost effective marketing you really do need specialist advice. The other option is to unwittingly pay too much for your advertising.

You choose your budget and judge the results. Your budget can be small and you can switch off at any time.

Google provides plenty of tips about setting up Adwords. Too much information. It can take time and money to get to the stage where you have mastered the technique of making Adwords profitable. Lots of people fail to reach that level of competency and give up. Yet, properly managed it is usually provides the most cost effective and controllable use of your marketing budget producing an excellent source of new business.

Beware of extravagant claims that you will get lots of traffic and make lots of sales. It is easy to herd the wrong people to your website. The wrong people are not interested in your product and immediately go elsewhere yet you still have to pay Google for all clicks. It is not the number of clicks that count but the quality of those clicks. A quality click is one that results in a sale.
